Biological activities caused by far-infrared radiation.
Contrary to previous presumption, accumulated evidence indicates that far-infrared rays are biologically active. A small ceramic disk that emits far-infrared rays (4-16 microns) has commonly been applied to a local spot or a whole part of the body for exposure. Pioneering attempts to experimentally analyze an effect of acute and chronic radiation of far-infrared rays on living organisms have de...
متن کاملfar-infrared radiation on radiation-induced skin damage in the treatment of pelvic tumours
OBJECTIVE: To determine the protective efficacy of vitamin B12 combined with far-infrared radiation on radiation-induced skin damage in the treatment of acute and chronic pelvic tumours. METHODS: One hundred patients requiring radiation therapy were randomly assigned to one of two groups: 50 patients were assigned to the control group and received usual care; the 50 patients assigned to the exp...
متن کاملAssessment of tissue heating under tunable near-infrared radiation.
The time-temperature effects of laser radiation exposure are investigated as a function of wavelength. Here, we report the thermal response of bulk tissue as a function of wavelength from 700 to 1064 nm. Additionally, Monte Carlo simulations were used to verify the thermal response measured and predict damage thresholds based on the response.
متن کاملFar infrared extragalactic background radiation: I. Source counts with ISOPHOT
As a part of the ISOPHOT CIRB (Cosmic Infrared Background Radiation) project we have searched for point-like sources in eight fields mapped at two or three wavelengths between 90μm and 180μm. Most of the 55 sources detected are suspected to be extragalactic and cannot be associated with previously known objects. It is probable, also from the far-infrared (FIR) spectral energy distributions, tha...
متن کاملFar infrared radiation (FIR): its biological effects and medical applications.
Far infrared (FIR) radiation (λ = 3-100 μm) is a subdivision of the electromagnetic spectrum that has been investigated for biological effects. The goal of this review is to cover the use of a further sub-division (3- 12 μm) of this waveband, that has been observed in both in vitro and in vivo studies, to stimulate cells and tissue, and is considered a promising treatment modality for certain m...
